Republic Players is a website for players of a popular online game called Republic Online, the website has a live chat room, a custom made feedback and contact form, and player information.
This website was set up quickly to demonstrate XHTML and CSS coding to W3C standards and the effect of a simple, clean edged website.

The inital design of the website was created in Adobe Photoshop and the image then sliced to create several images and a webpage with areas for text.

Refining of the page's code was carried out in Macromedia Dreamweaver to ensure the XHTML validated to the W3C standard. A cascading style sheet(CSS) was created so that the formatting of the text is in one place. Style sheets are also an important W3C recomendation as they help improve accessibility of a website.

Further coding in Dreamweaver took place, this time in PHP to improve the efficency of the website. The content of each page is set and then the page layout is called from a seperate file, this means the layout of every page on the site is the same and any changes to layout only have to be made in one place. PHP coding has also been made on this website in a similar way with the page navigation on the left. If links need to be added, removed, or changed, then they only need to be changed in one file, greatly increasing effeciency and reducing the chance of broken links.

A chatroom was added to the website for visitors to talk to each other live. PHP My Chat was chossen to be installed. This existing chatroom code included many features such as multiple public and private rooms, user moderator permissions, and smilies. The No More Grapes spent time customising PHP My Chat to have the requested chat room names and to have the entrance page in the Republic Players website style.
